Mailboxes for email codes

Reading codes from your mailbox is still being built. Once it is released, you will turn it on in the extension settings.

Some websites email you a numeric code. Once reading email codes is released, Provly will be able to read the mailbox on your own computer and fill the code in next to the code field, so you do not have to switch to your mail. Mail that only contains a link and no code is not picked up; open those links yourself. This is the list of mailboxes it is expected to work with, and how sure we are about each one.

First release: Mac only, and off by default. Your mailbox password is stored on this computer only, and the mail helper connects straight to your mail provider over TLS. Nothing goes through Provly's servers.

Only Gmail (personal), iCloud Mail, QQ Mail, 139 Mail (China Mobile), Outlook.com (personal) have been checked against a real mailbox, and only those entries say Supported. Entries marked Expected to work follow the provider's own documentation only.

Gmail (personal)

Supported (self-checked)

Personal Gmail accounts with 2-step verification on can create an app password. Google says app passwords are not recommended and gives no end date; if they go away, Gmail would only be left with a restricted OAuth review. Provly's own self-check passed on a real Gmail test mailbox on 2026-10-25.

Google Workspace

Ask your administrator

Whether an app password can be created is up to your administrator; with it turned off, the connection is refused and Provly says so when you turn the feature on.

QQ Mail

163 Mail

139 Mail (China Mobile)

Supported (self-checked)

139 Mail is China Mobile's mailbox and works over IMAP when IMAP is turned on in the mailbox settings and the client authorization code is used instead of the normal password. Provly's self-check passed on a real 139 test mailbox on 2026-10-25; the first try failed because IMAP was off, and it passed after IMAP was switched on.

Outlook.com (personal)

Supported (self-checked)

Outlook.com stopped accepting passwords for third-party mail apps on 2024-09-16, so it needs Microsoft authorization. Provly's mail helper gets that authorization on this computer. Provly's own Microsoft authorization and self-check passed on a real Outlook.com test mailbox on 2026-10-23.

Microsoft 365 (work or school)

Ask your administrator

By default Microsoft 365 does not let employees approve a third-party app to read their mail over IMAP, so turning this on is refused unless the administrator allows it.
